Mexican Car Rental Insurance


Mexican Rental Car Insurance for driving into Baja or rest of Mexico is covered on a specially designed Mexican Auto Insurance that has been tailored to your special needs. Mexico Rental Auto Insurance is based on the same coverage as the standard Mexican Car Insurance. It provides all the same coverage you have come to expect from out Mexican Insurance. The main difference is who owns the vehicle. Your US based rental car company will want you to buy the insurance and include them as a named insured. This has two benefits, it provides you with Mexican Auto Liability Insurance so you can drive legally in Mexico and it provides you with physical damage coverage. Typically Full Mexican Insurance coverage is cheaper than the CDW the rental car agency would sell you for driving in the US! So you actually save by driving your rental car in Mexico.

Mexican Rental Car Insurance is only for a US plated rented vehicle is virtually the same as buying for your own vehicle except that you must:

  • List the owner of the vehicle (the rental car company) as the named insured on the policy, and

  • As with any "non-owned" vehicle, you must obtain a letter of permission from the rental car company to drive the vehicle in Mexico and keep a copy of this letter with you when driving in Mexico.

Towing a trailer or a 5th wheel make sure it is include on your policy, please refer to towed units and insure your trailer.

Check with your rental agency, they may require "extend coverage" meaning including physical damage coverage as part of your Mexican rental car policy may be required by your rental car company, so confirm with them their Mexico Rental Car Insurance requirements.
