The rental car industry is very competitive posted rental car rates and discounted rates are easy to find out but deceptive in that often your cost to rent the vehicle will double because the rental car company have sold you a very expensive product to "protect you" against damage to the vehicle. If you are American or Canadian and renting a car in the united states before driving into Mexico you still have to buy Mexican auto liability insurance but you now have the option of either buying the Mexican physical damage coverage or this rental car insurance. The advantage of this rental car coverage, if the vehicle is worth up to US$35,000 / CDN$50,000, is that it provides more comprehensive coverage than that on offer from the Mexican insurance companies. No matter where you drive in the world, if driving outside of your home country we suggest you consult with your insurance broker / agent to make sure you have enough coverage. Often is it well worth considering to buy an umbrella insurance policy which provides you coverage on a worldwide basis and which drops down to the limit (top end) of the liability insurance provided by the rental car company in the country you are visiting. Once you obtain your quote, you agree to purchase, put some additional information into the system including relevant personal information & credit card information and then they system prepares your policy and you can then print it on your own printer and go.
